Student Parking

Parking at SRU is scary if you do not have a parking pass. Just yesterday I went to the ARC while the parking lady was still making her rounds. I parked my car and on the way into the gym I noticed her walking toward my car with a $50 ticket in hand. Before she could check it I got back into the car and parked on the other side of campus. Not having a parking pass is a risky game to play around here but it adds to the excitement of everyday life.

NC student teaching

For anyone who does not know, Slippery Rock has a student teaching program in North Carolina every summer. If you apply and are chosen you can student teach in Wake Co., NC for 12 weeks. From what I have been told they think highly of SRU students especially Phys Ed teacher candidates and the job maket down south for teachers is better than up here. Even if someone is not hired for a perminent teaching position there is the oppertunity to become a full time substitute and recieve benefits. Since Wake Co. is one of the largest school districts in the nation I like my chances down there. If anyone is considering moving down south to find a job I say go for it.

Books

The way SRU handles selling/buying books is a joke. Tuition is high enough where students should recieve all the books they need for the classes they sign up for. The current system encourages students to buy books for hundreds of dollars and half the time they are never even used in class. It would be nice to have the books provided at the beginning of each semester and the option to sell the books back for a reasonable price at the end of the semester. I cant stand buying a book for $150, never using it, only getting $20 back from sellin it, and the university sells it next year for $180. This example may be an exaggeration but the point remains.

SRU changes

Its hard to believe how much Slippery Rock has changed in the past 5 years. I remember the days walking around with half as many people/buildings. Most people wouldnt believe the fluh used to be better than boozel. It used to be a more personal environment. I guess its good for the university to expand but it was better before.
